Millennium Park Here We Come!!!

Yes, we've all seen, walked through, gone around Millennium Park, but have you really SEEN it? I plan on being at the Bean around 11am for everyone who wants to come. We will then play tourist and wander around the park taking a closer look at all the art and other oddities. Let me know by Saturday AM if you plan on coming so we can be sure to meet up.

Chinatown

What a beautiful day in Chicago! Bright, sunny and 65 degrees, can't beat that. Rachel, Bri and I took the L from my apartment in Oak Park down to the Cermak/Chinatown Red line stop (I wanted to take the water taxi but it doesn't begin weekend service for another month). There also happened to be a White Sox game so the train was packed, I had to hold on to Rachel for support as the train moved because I couldn't reach a pole to grab on to, it was a good core strengthening ride :)

We decided to eat right away at The Moon Palace. When every other storefront in Chinatown is a restaurant I was happy we had picked a place ahead of time, it would be very easy to be overwhelmed with choices. We had such an amazing meal! We ordered the basic sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and chicken fried rice and it was all delicious! We all agreed it was the best Chinese food we ever had. I can't wait to go back.

We spent the next couple hours wandering around the neighborhood, it was a great way to soothe our uncomfortably full stomachs. We took pictures with our zodiac animals...

We walked around to all the little shops, which basically carry the same stuff but we found a few really neat stores. There were many families out and about enjoying the nice weather after all the rain we've had. Rachel and I stepped in poop somehow so that was unfortunate but oh well! It was interesting going into the Chinese convenient stores and seeing all the different food, some of it looked pretty scary though. The architecture was great and I felt like once we stepped off the L we were in a different country.

All in all we had a wonderful time and I'm so happy that I finally visited Chinatown! Here's my souvenir for the day...

Upcoming Chinatown Trip

Time for our first event! For everyone who wants to come, let's plan on meeting at the Chinatown gate at Cermak and Wentworth at 11am.

I thought it would be nice to do some walking around looking at the sights and pop into a few gift shops and then have a lunch at Moon Palace, they seem to have a good lunch menu.

Chinatown is easily accessed by the Red Line and there is a parking lot right in the middle of the neighborhood. I'm planning on taking the Water Taxi, weather permitting.

Hello World!

Is anyone interested in seeing more of what our wonderful city of Chicago has to offer? After spending a wonderful day with two friends going to Lou Mitchell's for breakfast and seeing the Modern Wing at the Art Institute during Free February, I thought to myself "I should really do these kinds of things more often". So I started thinking about creating a little unofficial club (I use the term "club" loosely) in which every two months or so, whoever is interested gets together and does something that is free or relatively inexpensive; things that you always tell yourself would be fun or a good idea but you never get around to doing it. So here goes nothing!
