What a beautiful day in Chicago! Bright, sunny and 65 degrees, can't beat that. Rachel, Bri and I took the L from my apartment in Oak Park down to the Cermak/Chinatown Red line stop (I wanted to take the water taxi but it doesn't begin weekend service for another month). There also happened to be a White Sox game so the train was packed, I had to hold on to Rachel for support as the train moved because I couldn't reach a pole to grab on to, it was a good core strengthening ride :)
We decided to eat right away at The Moon Palace. When every other storefront in Chinatown is a restaurant I was happy we had picked a place ahead of time, it would be very easy to be overwhelmed with choices. We had such an amazing meal! We ordered the basic sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and chicken fried rice and it was all delicious! We all agreed it was the best Chinese food we ever had. I can't wait to go back.
We spent the next couple hours wandering around the neighborhood, it was a great way to soothe our uncomfortably full stomachs. We took pictures with our zodiac animals...
We walked around to all the little shops, which basically carry the same stuff but we found a few really neat stores. There were many families out and about enjoying the nice weather after all the rain we've had. Rachel and I stepped in poop somehow so that was unfortunate but oh well! It was interesting going into the Chinese convenient stores and seeing all the different food, some of it looked pretty scary though. The architecture was great and I felt like once we stepped off the L we were in a different country.
All in all we had a wonderful time and I'm so happy that I finally visited Chinatown! Here's my souvenir for the day...
